Calvados by Akai-Ink Calvados by Akai-Ink
Calvados - Sweet, spikey cider from Normandy. A bouquet of apples underscored with sharp oaky tannins and the slightest suggestion of apricots.

Earrings made of bronze and dressed up with a handful of Swarovski crystal copper beads alongside dark teal pearls. At a delicious 2.5", they're smashing with a great pair of jeans!

Woven in a variant of Helm Chain of 20ga and 24ga bronze in handmade 2.0mm and 5.0mm rings.

Sold.

Thank you. Bronze ages beautifully, and the weight really adds to the whole "this is old" concept. So glad you like them. :D

I love the color combination and that you used bronze. I don't know where to get bronze but have always wanted to use it. And I love how you made your own chandelier findings instead of using factory-made ones.

Thank you. I'm glad you like them. I truly enjoy the challenge of creating stable findings out of maille. Hopefully, I'll be able to buy a torch and play with fabrication soon. If you'd like to play with a little bronze, the Ring Lord sells bronze wire in a dozen gauges. Try <www.theringlord.com> [link]. Their shipping is a bit high, but the product selection is wonderful.

I haven't been to that site in ages, it'd be a great idea to go back. Have you worked with a torch before? I haven't, but would like to, just don't have the equipment or facilities to do it in. I had some calvados once in Paris when a friend had a bottle from his parents' vacation home in Normandy. I don't remember it sweet or smooth at all. It was powerful stuff and had the most incredible kick, but the aftertaste of apples was so good. Those are neat earwires, I've seen that style and really like it. Did you make these, too?

I haven't worked with a torch yet, but I'm looking forward to a few lessons from a friend starting tomorrow. If I had access to the right facilities, I might have bypassed jewelry altogether in favor of smithing. It's something I've always wanted to learn.

You know, I've been thinking about all the different calvados I've had, and some have definitely had a punch while others were the sweetest, creamiest apple jack I've ever drunk. I'm willing to bet it's all in the brewer. If you ever have a chance, try Bayeaux cider. You'll see what I'm talking about. :D
