Terrestrial
spoken word
They don't speak very loudly
and,
like the aftersound
of fireworks,
there's a time delay between
when the earth
speaks
and when you listen.
Or maybe when you start listening,
and the time it takes
to work sounds to lips that are
so, so, so
intangibly terrestrial.
But the mountains speak
usually only when you bother to listen.
It takes the sort of quiet when
you're the only one at the summit
and there isn't much point
to pointing out everything you see.
It's only you, and the mountains
and they've already seen it all.
The mountains.
Speaking to you through you.
In the aftersound that is never far away.
But they never have much to say,
and you have to supply all the conversation yourself.
